Where We Work

The geographic areas of focus for the Northern Blues Forest Collaborative are the lands of the Umatilla and Wallowa Whitman National Forests, which encompass nearly 3.8 million acres across NE Oregon, SE Washington, and Western Idaho. The Umatilla NF contains four ranger districts, three wilderness areas, and two Wild and Scenic Rivers. The Wallowa-Whitman NF contains four ranger districts, one national recreation area, four wilderness areas, and ten Wild and Scenic Rivers.

How We Work

The NBFC provides the opportunity for meaningful local input early in the US Forest Service's forest management process. We meet monthly to discuss projects that are happening on the ground and help staff make the best decisions possible about how to manage our forest.

Since inception, the forest collaborative has prioritized six projects since 2012, encompassing over 260,000 acres of analysis lands:

  • Kahler Dry Forest >>

  • Thomas Creek >>

  • Glass >>

  • Sheep Creek >>

  • Most recently, the NBFC has been actively engaged in supporting both the Umatilla and Wallowa-Whitman National Forests in a joint landscape-level restoration project, through the CFLRP (Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program).
